Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
